Ten years after the release of his breakout hit Diggy, Spencer Ludwig revisits the track that sparked his solo journey, unveiling the original demo version, written and produced with Tom Peyton, Lee Anna James and Grammy winner Dan Nigro, and premiering a kaleidoscopic new video directed by Markus Madlangbayan
Before Diggy soundtracked global campaigns for Target, Samsung, and NBA 2K, it was a raw, brass-driven anthem born from experimentation and self-belief. This newly unearthed demo captures that early edge, the tension between polished pop and the messy, magnetic energy of artistic discovery. “I always wanted this version to be the focus,” Ludwig says. “It’s gritty, punchy, and feels the most authentic to what I was aiming for then and now: catchy pop with an edge.”
The visual brings that spirit to life through Madlangbayan’s unmistakable lens: a technicolour explosion of surreal imagery, trumpet riffs, and rhythm made visible. The result feels like both a time capsule and a rebirth, a reminder of how far Ludwig has come while keeping his creative pulse intact.
Ludwig, who first rose to prominence as the trumpeter for Capital Cities before launching his solo career with Warner Bros., has since evolved into one of pop’s most fluid voices, bridging funk, jazz, and electronica with effortless precision. Collaborating here again with Nigro, now known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Caroline Polachek, the project connects two distinct eras of pop visionaries in dialogue.
