Just like the Mad Hatter invited Alice over an over-the-top, highly creative tea time surrounded by cooky characters, Loewe is extending that invitation too to anyone who’s around Milan for Salone del Mobile. Until the 13th of April, the luxury House is exhibiting a rather unique collection of custom-made teapots by twenty-five different artists at Palazzo Citterio.
Loewe is synonym with craftsmanship, there is no doubt of that. For over a century, the Spanish house has expanded its horizons from leather goods to all things artistic, which is something that their Casa Loewe flagship stores reflect to perfection. Especially under the tenure of Jonathan Anderson, the House reaffirmed its position in the artisanal world while also strengthening its relationships with craftspeople from all over the world. That’s why it doesn’t come as a surprise that for such a remarkable event like Milan Design Week, Loewe hosts an exhibition that stays true to its DNA.
In Loewe Teapots, curated by Jonathan Anderson, the House shows an impressive collection of these everyday objects that have been especially commissioned to artists, designers, and architects like Laia Arqueros, Masaomi Yasunaga, Suna Fujita, Simone Fattal, Madoda Fani, Sam Bakewell, Patricia Urquiola, Robert Min Chen, or Inchin Lee, among others. As Loewe explains, “while many artists chose to work with the ceramic and porcelain materials traditionally associated with teapots, experimentation with materiality and form runs throughout Loewe Teapots. A variety of glazes, textures, and finishes combine with innovative treatments of structural elements like handles and spouts to challenge familiar understandings of scale, proportion, and function.”
