Even if it’s spring and most people think of flowers, outdoor picnics, and Easter holidays, there are still some of us who love darkness and are obsessed with blood, monsters, and the occult. Filmmakers are aware of that, and this month of April brings new horror movies for us to enjoy — like Sinners and Until Dawn. But there’s more to look forward to. Just a couple of days ago, Jordan Peele’s production company, Monkeypaw Productions, unveiled the official poster of Him, directed by Justin Tipping. If you love bloodshed stories, demonic possessions, and all things evil, you’re in the right place. Here’s what you can’t miss in the coming months.
Sinners
The relationship between director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) and actor Michael B. Jordan is the gift that keeps on giving. The two team up again to bring to life the story of a pair of twin brothers (both played by the Oscar-nominated actor) that, after years away from home, decide to come back. But once there, they discover that danger awaits in the dark.
Until Dawn
In this teenage horror movie, directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Anabelle: The Creation), the premise is easy: a group of youngsters is trapped in a time loop within a haunted house. From sunset to sunrise, they need to survive the foes that want to kill them in gruesome ways; if they succeed, they break the loop and can escape. Easy, isn’t it? Well, avoiding being killed is much, much harder than you may think. Expect tension, gore, and over-the-top killings.
Bring Her Back
The Phillipou brothers (Talk to Me) are at it again in their new movie. This new A24 production, out May 30, follows a couple of adopted siblings as they adapt to their new foster house and step-mother — a creepy, mysterious, and dangerous woman. Soon, they’ll discover some terrifying rituals are taking place there, and that the person who should be taking care of them isn’t doing that at all.
Together
We can’t really say what this is going to be about because the brilliant trailer is more about the vibe, the feeling, rather than the plot. What we know for sure though, is that real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco have an undeniable chemistry on and off screen, and that Neon always produces top-tier horror films. So, just know that the 1st of August, you have a supernatural date at your nearest theatre.
Him
This one will take a little bit longer, after seeing the official Instagram post, we got excited! Produced by Jordan Peele and directed by Justin Tipping (mostly known for TV series like Black Monday or Flatbush Misdemeanors), this upcoming film (out on the 19th of September) is described as “an anti-sports horror movie.” We’ll see a young football player (Tyriq Withers) who’s invited to train at the isolated compound of a dynasty team’s aging Quarterback 1 (Marlon Wayans). For all we know, this legendary quarterback will take his protégé “on a blood-chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, power and pursuit of excellence at any cost. It also co-stars Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies and hip-hop stars Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack.
