A couple of months ago, Waiting for Smith released his album Raised Up, a ten-track record whose aim was to lift his listeners’ spirits and bring them joy through music. Cleverly released just when the sun rays hit harder, people are more outdoors and enjoy group activities, and nature surrounding us is just as lively, the LP’s goal has been achieved. But Waiting for Smith isn’t done, and he’s recently released the music video of the homonymous song that gives the album its name, directed by Ross Hillier.
Speaking of how the piece came to be, Waiting for Smith shares: “It was incredible to see the idea that started in our heads come to life in South Africa. When I called Ross Hillier, the Director, on the phone and told him the idea it was like the video had already been made. He went into the South African wilderness two weeks later with a DOP and the amazing actress Francesca Michel, and shot it in a couple of days!” The result is beautiful video that invites viewers to re-think about their day-to-day lifestyles and try to reconnect with nature and our inner spirituality.
Because even though many of us work sitting in front of a computer, where we spend most of our day, we weren’t made for that. This extremely sedentary, hyper-connected rhythm can make our lives dull, boring, and purposeless. It’s not really in our nature. As the singer says about the video, “The main idea was to show the difference between a connected life to nature, your body and mind, and a more disconnected reality that many of us seem to be living in today.” With a hint of criticism but presented in the most wholesome way, Raised Up is an hymn to break free from the everyday stress and find pleasure in nature.
