Nuances and textures run through the impressive voice of Lilith Merlot, who has been experimenting with various genres since releasing her debut EP in 2017. The Dutch singer and songwriter has been enchanted by harmony and melody from a young age and she's releasing today her new song White Lies. This single arrives hours before she unveils her new Shades of Blue EP, which also includes the already-released singles Easier to Fight, Compromised and Burn Your Bridges. It’s time to immerse ourselves in her exciting musical universe.
Lilith Merlot has always been connected to music. Her mother was a classical violinist and, as a young girl, she often joined her on tour through Europe. The first time she stepped on a stage joining the conductor in the Royal Albert Hall she was only 5 years old. Her incredible musical background coupled with her jazz vocal studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory is evidenced in her new release, White Lies, which is the latest sneak peek of her forthcoming EP in which she delves into the deeper meanings of the colour blue. One more demonstration of her vocal ability and her skill to connect with feelings through meaningful lyrics.
“Some of the piano ballads on this EP are quite vulnerable, but you can clearly hear a shift to a lighter shade of blue towards the end. For example, in the groovy, soulful pop song White Lies, in which I sing: 'I refuse to remember you in this dark shade of blue, you can take it all from me, but I'm keeping the memories,” says the artist, who will be officially presenting her new EP in concert at Patronaat, Haarlem, on May 31. And she started to write all these songs after a very unexpected and painful breakup. “I found myself not being able to talk about it, so I sat down behind the piano and wrote my way through it.”
