Are we now more aware of the world we are surrounded by, or has lockdown distanced ourselves from the planet we live in? Contemplation and deep reflection contrast with the detachment of the human being from nature in physical and sensory terms. At the same time, biodiversity coexists with the pursuit of mental wellbeing. Is it possible to achieve both goals simultaneously? Of course it is, and the Hyper Functional, Ultra Healthy series promises to prove it through a combination of online programs leaded by Somerset House Studio, available until March 7.
If there is anything that the pandemic has taught us, it is that the future will be (or should be) defined by collaboration and knowledge sharing. Different ways of understanding life that contribute to making the planet a better place, and that applied to art, result in never before seen initiatives we can make use of. That’s what the experimental workplace located in the heart of London, Somerset House Studios, aims to do through a month-long free activity cycle which includes commissions, workshops, films, podcasts and even Kemetic yoga classes, an ancient Egyptian practice which reconnects us with our soul.
Artists, creatives and scientists come together to explore the concept of health in the digital age, accelerated by the pandemic that has forced us to depend on technology more than ever. From reflections on the impact of technology on mental health by Dr Romy Gad el Rab, to an analysis of how cinema overcomes the global crisis led by the Brazilian artist Ana Vaz, whose work addresses history, culture and nature. We even find a craft and embroidery workshop with which to slow down our pace of life. Let’s join the global conversation to face the new normal in the best possible way!
