Missing The White Lotus already? Well, Jacquemus is here to save the day. Swap feeling the blues for a yellow fever because the designer’s latest campaign is… bananas! Starring actor Jon Gries (Greg or Gary in the acclaimed Mike White series), the campaign is a playful, cheeky take on bourgeois lifestyle — think golfing, space travelling, resting, or having a llama for a pet. You get it now, right?
Even if Simon Porte Jacquemus is synonym with the south of France, the Mediterranean, and peaceful sunsets, he’s totally embracing the LA lifestyle. Just a few days ago, the French designer opened his first boutique in the city, a yellow-tainted dream house with massive cosy sofas, terracota tiled floors, and art objects that display the brand’s love for artisanal work and craftsmanship. To celebrate the feat, he threw quite a party: banana ice cream for everyone, luscious bouquets of flowers everywhere, and high-profile guests including Symone, Cole Sprouse, Benny Drama, and Laura Harrier.
Still on a high, today the brand presents Going Bananas for Jon, their new campaign. Of course the visuals are impecable — clean, with soft colours, a beautiful natural background. And, of course, Jon Gries letting it all out in front of the camera: be it dressed as an astronaut, trimming a banana-shaped bush, sipping a piña colada, weightlifting a couple of bananas, taking his llama for a walk, or having a refreshing ice cream in the park.
