A year after we last spoke to Emei about the release of her single Trust Issues, the Los Angeles-based alt-pop singer-songwriter today unveils the title track of her much-awaited sophomore EP, Cynical. The song comes along with a dramatic and ridiculous music video and arrives after selling out her very first headline show in London and announcing the Cynical tour, her first North American tour. Being one of her favourite singles to date, she can't wait to scream this song with her fans in London next week and in all the cities she's visiting in November.
“The song has always been my favourite to play live so of course, a moshpit was a must. We then landed on an aesthetic inspired by Tim Burton and this video became everything I've wanted and more. Welcome to the title track of my EP. Welcome to the world of Cynical,” Emei says about her latest release, which is an undeniable anthem that explains her consistent need to destroy any semblance of peace and her need for self-inflicted disasters, and continues to push the lines of what pop can be with her use of bold sounds and dramatic flair.
“When I met Asher Santos on the set of my That Girl music video, I knew instantly we had chemistry through the camera. Our creative visions have always aligned for my music and it is with sincere excitement and giddiness to show the world our baby, the Cynical music video,” she adds when asked about the visual piece that comes along with the single and in which the artist has worked hard to achieve the maximum coherence and meaning.
