Making its way to Barcelona at the end of summer is the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, a month-long sailing competition whose winner takes home the oldest sporting trophy. Beginning in 1851, the America’s Cup is the longest-standing competitive sailing event which has evolved over the years with numerous different partners, locations and participants. Louis Vuitton has worked alongside the regatta since 1983 and stands as lead partner for this year’s events, highlighting the prestigious Maison’s commitment to excellence and tradition.
Known for its beautiful weather, proximity to the sea and lively atmosphere, Barcelona serves as the ideal location for this centuries-old event. August 29 through October 27 will be marked with a series of regattas among the top sailing qualifiers. To start, five teams (Ineos Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic and Orient Express Racing Team) will compete amongst one another for the Louis Vuitton Cup title. Whichever team reigns victorious will challenge the current America’s Cup Defender, Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, represented by Emirates Team New Zealand, who has held the title since 2017.
The Maison has curated newly-designed trophies for the event that embody the elegance and innovation of the house. The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup receives the Auld Mug held in the latest Trophy Trunk embroidered with the iconic LV logo, in hand-painted red and lined with the Maison’s signature red edges. The Trophy Trunk is a nod to Louis Vuitton’s place in the designer luggage industry. Additionally, the Auld Mug has been upgraded to a silver trophy designed by a prominent silversmith.
To accompany the month-long event with its specially updated triumphant decorations, Louis Vuitton released their capsule collection that aligns with the nautical essence of the America’s Cup. The collection is divided into three categories to match all types of maritime dwellers. Riding the Wave includes garments like windbreakers and waterproof bags for the sailing extraordinaire; A Day on Deck are for those with a more relaxed attitude, featuring colorful and creatively designed swim and beachwear. For those who embody a more sophisticated summer look, Elegant Summer Evening includes dresses, blazers and loafers.
In addition to watching the regattas, the Maison has laid out an immersive experience for bystanders. Kiosks will line the marina, and they will offer a city guide that highlights Barcelona’s most endearing locals. Spectators can come and watch the events for free at the America’s Cup Race Village located in Port Vell. Strolling through the race village, there is plenty of entertainment including daily presentations, food, drinks and activities. People can also watch from the beach shorelines between Port Vell and Port Olímpic.
