Out for streaming today, Josh Lumsden’s newest single Oh My God gives us a taste of their metamorphic musical production with a boppy, glitchy tune ready to move to. Accompanied by a self-directed and produced music video featuring Josh and a cephalopodic arm, Oh My God is a pop song-meets-oddities, blending Josh’s deconstructed musical elements with dancier ones.
Glitchy moments of modulated rapping throughout are cut with Josh’s melodic vocals, linking the more human side of their artist persona with their animalistic fixations. Produced independently by Josh, Oh My God marks their unique, DIY sound that attempts to meld a variety of influences both musically and visually.
Their musical origins begin in their hometown of Austin, Texas, as a classically trained musician who evolved into production on their own. Now residing in New York City, this do-it-yourself artist has not only produced their entire discography, but also directs and edits each music video and designs every album cover. The definition of self-made musician, Josh Lumsden’s production is constantly growing, with a distinctive sound present throughout their releases (namely, their first EP Scion i) but each borrowing elements from different genres. With the newest EP, Vyyper, being set for release in early 2024, Josh leaves us wondering what supernatural surprises the new album might bring.
