We are now more than ever used to seeing collaborations between giants coming from different fashion sectors, like streetwear and luxury, however, these capsule collections – when done right – never really cease to amaze us. We were already blown away by a magical house of mirrors-like runway in which adidas x Gucci was presented back in February, and yet this lookbook has definitely also caught our attention.
The Carlijn Jacobs shot images present us with some outstanding staple items that we never knew we needed. From curiously designed and elevated sweatpants that presented the iconic white three-stripes from adidas on one leg and on the other the red and green stripes that represent the legacy of the house of Gucci. All of this is presented through a retro, yet still very contemporary fashion, merging the sportswear brand's innovative and youthful energy with the Italian heritage and vintage inspiration of Gucci's Creative Director Alessandro Michele, who has designed this collection.
Judging from the looks, expect to see in stores starting from June 7 items such as a luggage collection, – like big and small bags for storing cameras that are adorned with the adidas clover and an inscription that reads “Gucci” but is written the other way round – a new version of the adidas Gazelle sneaker, a reinterpretation of Gucci's classic moccasins in leather or suede that feature both brands' stripes, leather clogs or even flip flops with the adidas emblem and Gucci's monogram.
They also offer more unusual pieces like hairbands, a baseball hat made of regenerated Econyl® and even a selection of leather golf bags with the GG pattern and the adidas x Gucci logo, followed by an unprecedented umbrella line. A colourful and playful meeting of two iconic brands that are setting the tone for more upcoming collaborations between streetwear and luxury giants.
