Stephen Baker is a young artist from Australia who knows his city, Melbourne, wall by wall. That is not a coincidence, because in some of them is where we can find his artwork. Baker enjoys telling stories of short lines, and is the minimal presence of this element in his paintings what makes them different. He shows a contained representation of the world translating scenes into all kinds of shapes, challenging our cinematic perception. His combination of colours is a treat for the eyes and makes it easier to get lost into the geometrical shapes. Baker not only knows how to make a reflective use of the colour combination, but also how to blend waved lines to break up with the straight ones. All in all, his careful choice of the painting palette, lines and shapes is able to bring a fascinating sense of movement to his paintings.
