Afrobeat powerhouse Seun Kuti, together with the legendary Egypt 80, has just released the highly anticipated Deluxe Edition of their critically acclaimed, Lenny Kravitz-produced album Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) via Record Kicks. Originally released in October 2024, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) marked a powerful return for Seun, an artist deeply rooted in the legacy of his father, Fela Kuti, yet fully engaged with the present. With the Deluxe Edition, Seun expands the sonic and political scope of the original album, presenting a compelling suite of remixes, reworks, and new collaborations.
Being aware that creative alliances can lead to never-before-seen formulas, Seun takes his project to the next level by including notable collaborations and proving that we're stronger together. Bringing fresh perspectives to his message of resistance, empowerment, and cultural pride, the collaborations include new jazz giant Kamasi Washington on Move (Keep Moving Version), French-Caribbean goddess Adi Oasis on Love & Revolution (Cinnamon Version), Zambian rapper and revolutionary poet Sampa The Great on Emi Aluta (Zamrock Remix), the legendary Pos of De La Soul on Stand Well Well (Grand Stand Version), Italian reggae star Alborosie on T.O.P. (Over The Top Version), and UK duo Gaudi & Don Letts on the disco dub remix of Dey feat. Damian Marley.
With this Deluxe Edition, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 reaffirm their commitment to Afrobeat as both a musical force and a vehicle for change. “On Heavier Yet (Lays the Crownless Head), I collaborated with many special guests. I am grateful to have Adi Oasis, Alborosie, Damian Marley, Don Letts & Gaudi, Kamasi Washington, Pos of De La Soul, Sampa the Great on my album. Support the Movement. Make the world groove again,” Seun Kuti shared on his Instagram profile on release day.
