From 31st October to 2nd November the Northern Portuguese city, Guimarães, is about to become the centre of it all. Known within the country as “the birthplace of Portugal” already, Mucho Flow Festival 2024 is going to make it also the birthplace of a very good time. The city is a UNESCO heritage site and the interplay between its 10th-century and 13th-century buildings with this very much 21st-century festival is revitalising.
For those seeking their next avant-garde musical epiphany, Mucho Flow has your back. Having programmed Sega Bodega, Evian Christ and Black Midi (RIP) in their previous line-ups, these organisers know what they’re doing. This year they welcome some of the greats: Gabber Eleganza, who not so long ago did a design collaboration with Alexander McQueen for McQ and this summer tore up Berghain with his hard-hitting DJ set, Detroit’s Snow Strippers with their radical EDM that embraces the freak in all of us and Hypnosis Therapy Seoul’s electronic-rap duo who will be giving their first show in Portugal ever at the festival.
The new artists added to the line-up this week are TOCCORORO, 33EMYBW & Joey Holder, and Bassvictim. Bassvictim seem particularly interesting with their meme-saturated approach to bass-heavy EDM. Their visual identity take 2010 nostalgia to a whole new level. Rising artists already announced, Ebbb are a great choice to catch at Mucho Flow too who express the meeting of historical with contemporary at the festival. The band performing layer driving beats over choral vocals on their debut EP “All At Once” that references Sisyphus on the cover. Another interesting new act who will feature at this 11th edition of Mucho Flow are Still House Plants whose slow-core rock sits in contrast with some of the more energetic sets we expect.
A multi-venue experience, Mucho Flow is due to build yet another universe of musical treats to discover in the heart of an exquisitely beautiful historic city. It’s time to leave your troubles behind and dive into sounds that a rewriting the rules of modern music.
