MTRSS began in Tokyo as a collaboration among international touring musicians and has grown into a global collective known for its emotionally rich, analogue sound. The group is also active in environmental causes, including ocean conservation and awareness campaigns. Sacrebleu, which was officially launched on June 20, is a nine-part instrumental musical film created by a team from the Americas and Europe. Directed by Clément Oberto, the project uses poetic and surreal imagery to explore themes like plastic pollution, climate anxiety, and humanity’s troubled relationship with nature.
One of the film’s powerful images shows a childlike figure emerging from the ocean with a plastic bag over their head, symbolising society’s disregard for environmental damage. The project has already been featured at festivals such as the Paris International Short Festival and the Stockholm Short Film Festival, and has won awards including Best Music Video at the Berlin Indie Film Festival.
With Destiny’s Conundrum leading the way, MTRSS sets a powerful tone for Sacrebleu, combining haunting melodies with urgent environmental messages. The single not only showcases the collective’s unique sound but also serves as a compelling invitation to engage with the film’s broader themes, making it a standout piece that captures the project’s heart and purpose.
