She does not run away from the difficult moments she has experienced in recent years. Nor does she silence the negative feelings that she has had to learn to manage these last years. But for Mr Little Jeans (aka Monica Birkenes) music offered her a path back from the brink. A way to reinterpret the nightmares that had plagued her life and a way to reaffirm the creativity that's always been a guiding light. She is now releasing a new single and music video, Intentions. A sneak peek of her upcoming album, Better Days, out on June 3 via Nettwerk.
“This is a song about our planet, global warming, my fears for the future, and also my shame for standing by doing very little to change the trajectory of where we're headed,” says the artist, who is getting ready to unveil her first full length since acclaimed 2014 album Pocketknife. Her delicate voice meets synths in a three-and-a-half-minute single. “It represents to me how fleeting everything is, the good, the stable, the joyous, the challenging, the bad, and the ugly,” she adds about her new release, with which she opens a new chapter in her musical career after a long hiatus.
Tracy Antonopolous has directed the music video that comes along with the single and that we can now watch, with whom she already worked on the music video for Lazy Love earlier this year. “I wrote the idea for the video before knowing that Monica’s song references global warming, and think our ideas both explore the uncertainty that lives under the surface of our everyday lives,” says Antonopolous, who wanted to reflect the sense of false security that we experience when we take refuge in the material world. A volatile universe where nothing is guaranteed or lasts forever. On June 3 we will be able to listen to the new album in its entirety. “The record might come across darker as I've come more into my own,” says Mr Little Jeans.
