The Stories We Carry

Eight songs, eight years of experiences and plenty of lessons learned along the way. Norwegian singer-songwriter Maren Davidsen brings them all together on This Is Where I Leave You, her debut album, a deeply personal record shaped by the moments that have defined her life. From feeling lost and misunderstood to navigating complicated relationships and learning to let go, Davidsen turns her experiences into music, blending Nordic Americana, folk, and country influences with a refreshing honesty.
Originally from Stavanger, Davidsen spent eight years living in London before moving to Oslo in 2023. That decision gave her the space to reconnect with her songwriting and make sense of everything she had experienced. “The music is all based on personal experiences, dreams or interpretations of what I go through in life. Feelings of being lost, misunderstood, and, of course, having your heart broken,” she explains.
One of the album's highlights is Dimensions, a folk-driven track exploring a relationship that could never fully exist in reality. Imagining an alternative universe where two people can continue meeting through their dreams, Davidsen turns an impossible love story into something beautifully bittersweet. “It is a song about forbidden love, escape, and the strange grief of knowing that something was real, even though it could never fully exist in the world around you,” she says.
Martin Vinje, who has worked with Sigrid, produced the album, which was recorded with a full band across several studios in Oslo. Drawing inspiration from artists such as First Aid Kit and Kacey Musgraves, Davidsen embraces an organic sound that gives her storytelling room to breathe.
With a tour beginning in her hometown of Stavanger, This Is Where I Leave You marks a new chapter for an artist who has spent years turning personal experiences into songs. It's a record about understanding yourself through everything you've lived, including the moments you'd probably prefer to forget.
