Assouline Publishing collaborates with Louis Vuitton to honour the legacy of their late artistic director and Off-White founder, Virgil Abloh. A testament of a relationship that went to change the trajectory of fashion forever, packed with over three hundred and twenty iconic images and personal reflections from Abloh's inner circle, including Nigo, Naomi Campbell, Luka Sabbat, Kendall Jenner, and Kid Cudi; the book Louis Vuitton: Virgil Abloh is the ultimate chronicle and exploration of a partnership that redefined dress codes and fashion’s very own vocabulary.
Named Louis Vuitton’s first African-American artistic director, Abloh was born to break boundaries, his first bow for the Maison back in June 2018 sparked not only a moment but a movement towards inclusivity, diversity and empowerment within the luxury industry. The book serves as a celebration of how Abloh changed the fashion landscape starting a cultural shift which is still very present in our daily agenda.
The book comes with two collectible covers, one taken from Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2022 spinoff show in Miami, the other, a cartoon artwork by artist Reggieknow. An exclusive edition is also available, The Ultimate Collection, which is packed in a collector's box and features a special insert that serves as a compendium of every single sneaker Virgil designed for Louis Vuitton.
Written by Abloh’s close collaborator Anders Christian Madsen and divided into eight chapters, one for each collection orchestrated for the house. Madsen has previously served as Fashion Critic for British Vogue since 2017, while he began his career as Fashion Features Director at i-D Magazine. He also works as a consultant to leading fashion houses and sits on committees devoted to emerging talent, “as a Black creative with no formal training in fashion design, no list of established fashion houses on his CV (...) Abloh saw himself as an infiltrator in high fashion: a true outsider who would become a groundbreaking figure.”
