Embracing experimentation and dealing intensively with the major themes and trends of our time, both musically and in terms of content, Laikka releases today their sophomore album Bleach through Austrian imprint Fabrique Records. Having shaped an exciting project where pop meets electronica and techno, they wrote this new album throughout 2022 during a particularly intense time for the three-year-old musical duo channelling their feelings into this latest release that comes along with a music video to track Distort My Mind.
“Emerging from the despair of the pandemic, there was a period of hope and excitement that was shattered by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The album represents an ongoing cycle of struggle and resilience, seeking solace amidst the negative aspects while cherishing the positive ones,” they reply when asked about the stage they went through in their lives when writing the album they’re unveiling today, Bleach. Jumping back and forth between euphoria and anxiety, God complex and crushed self-worth, Eartheater, Shygirl, Sega Bodega and Arca are just some of their big influences in terms of experimental pop sound.
The thirteen-track album plunges us into an enveloping atmosphere deeply rooted in the digital art world, placing equal value on visual aesthetics and musical productions. A good example of this is the impressive video that comes along with their single Distort My Mind, “A euphoric anthem to love, about giving in, letting it gently consume and fill body and mind,” as they say. It’s time to take a major step in consolidating their musical project on the international scene and this latest release undoubtedly means an absolute breakthrough for the duo.
