After releasing the EP Blue in May last year, Hendrix Harris is back with new music and some exciting news. Today, the London-based singer, rapper, composer and producer is releasing Incentive, an evocative song where his beautiful voice captivates the listeners. And brace yourselves because that’s the first release of his new album, which he announces also today. This Friday couldn’t get any better!
Speaking of his latest track, Hendrix says: “This is the first single from my new LP and it is a deep dive into its sonic universe of warm heavy bass driven beats, ethereal textures and intoxicating melodies. I wanted to give an honest state of play, capturing the essence of being an up-and-coming artist in the 21st century.” And what does it feel like to be an emerging artist nowadays? Thanks to social media, audiences have instant access to artists around the world, and the sources to get inspiration from are almost limitless. However, not all that glitters is gold: the competitiveness is really tough and the pressure to put out artworks –now labelled as ‘content’– constantly to ‘stay relevant’ is almost inhumane. Not speak of how the industry works. In Hendrix’s words: “Through lines like ‘I’m on a boat sailing through a sea of acid, lacking in traction’, I express the burden of loneliness in a toxic industry, and the uncertainties that come with making hard decisions.”
With Incentive, Hendrix Harris continues to deliver soulful music that soothes anyone who listens to it while also making critical commentary on the music industry: “I used to sing for no reason now I need an incentive / Lacking in passion? / I haven’t even sang a note and I’m talking percentage,” he says in the lyrics. With his versatile and unclassifiable style that mixes genres like hip-hop and R&B, the singer and producer continues to amaze us. What’s next for him? What other singles will precede the release of the album? Stay tuned, he won’t disappoint.
