Over the past few days, Guy Gerber has shared two updates that outline the next phase of his year. The producer has released Misirlou, a new three-track EP that signals a shift in his sonic direction, while also confirming that his long-running RUMORS residency will return to Ibiza this summer, once again taking over Wednesday nights at Cova Santa. The series will run from May through August, extending a presence on the island that now spans more than a decade.
With Misirlou, Gerber opens the door to a slightly different palette in his music, bringing cinematic guitar textures and vintage rock influences into his electronic universe. The title track unfolds around surf-inspired riffs and a slow-building sense of tension, with much of the instrumentation performed by Gerber himself, including guitar, bass, drums, Hammond organ, and pipe organ. The result blends organic performance with electronic production, creating a sound that feels expansive but still anchored to the pulse of the dance floor.
Gerber draws from a wide range of references, from early rock & roll and rockabilly to the atmospheric storytelling often associated with film soundtracks. These elements appear naturally throughout Misirlou, Don’t Turn Away From Love, and Land Before Time, shaping a sound that feels textured and slightly cinematic without losing its club sensibility.
The track Don’t Turn Away From Love explores a similar terrain with a slightly different mood. Built around rockabilly rhythm and romantic tension, the title comes from a line in David Lynch’s Wild at Heart, reinforcing the filmic tone that runs through the EP. Recorded across several cities, including Ibiza, Tokyo, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro, the project combines drum machines with live percussion and layered instrumentation, giving the music a tactile, human quality.
At the same time, the return of RUMORS to Ibiza reconnects Gerber with the environment that has long shaped his music. The residency will unfold across eleven dates at Cova Santa, the hillside venue between Ibiza Town and Sant Josep known for its open-air atmosphere and panoramic views. The upcoming season will run on May 20, June 17 and 24, July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, and August 5, 19 and 26, continuing a legacy that now spans more than thirteen years on the island.
