Belfast musician Gareth Dunlop has released the accompanying music video to his song Go Down Swinging which was released just last week. The track is taken from his highly anticipated upcoming third album, Welcome To The House Of I Don’t Know, as well as a heartfelt message to Dunlop’s daughter Joanie, who finds herself centre stage in this music video.
That “red hair like a warning sign” from the first line of the song is one of the first images in the video introducing us to Joanie, who is every bit as strong-willed as the song makes her out to be. In the 80's-inspired video, she is seen writing the melody on this grand piano and scribbling down the lyrics on pen and paper. Taking to the acoustic guitar to strum, it’s clear from the chorus that Joanie’s found the groove of the song as she rocks out, taking the recording to the band to direct. Ending the video, Joanie finds herself on stage recording the song, dressed up as the pop star she clearly is for the occasion. The video is a heartwarming addition to an already beautiful song.
Talking about her starring role, Joanie said: “I was a bit nervous at first because I haven’t been in a music video before where I am the star, but it was so much fun getting to dress up and just go crazy on the stage. Dad and his band were being really funny, and they did a really good job as well.”
Gareth Dunlop’s clear musical talent has been recognised by legendary artists alike, performing alongside Van Morrison, Snow Patrol, James Morrison, Stereophonics, and many others. Dunlop’s music may have also caught your attention from the screen, featuring on the hit TV series Nashville, as well as Lucifer, This Is Us, Bones, and Suits. With such a positive teaser for his upcoming album Welcome To The House Of I Don’t Know, the anticipated release date of June 14th can’t come soon enough.
