The image of the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, that famous metamorphosis, is a rather worn-out theme in culture; we have read, seen, and heard it on countless occasions. However, the band Fuera gives a new, refreshing twist to the concept in their new song, Mariposa, where they combine their own lyrics and production with a poem in Spanish written and sung by an AI.
Even though the trio hails from Naples, they’ve decided to start the song with an AI-generated poem in Spanish, which sounds extremely melodic and harmonic. More or less, it goes like this: “Let us shine with the colours of the rainbow / With the grace and elegance of flight / From the darkness, the sparkles emerge / Of the most beautiful transformation.” Pretty, isn’t it?
These three friends from Italy are growing unstoppably as a cultural phenomenon in their country and beyond. With their unique blend of techno, rap, and psychedelic punk aesthetics, they’ve performed in front of crowded audiences across the peninsula and are rapidly gaining a cult following. With Mariposa, their new song (out via fueraroom and distributed by ADA through Warner Music), Fuera is cementing the base of its new direction as a band.
The accompanying music video of Mariposa is as hypnotic and dark as their music. In it, we see the members of Fuera spinning together in an endless, black void. Dressed in straight-forward fashion –distressed and repurposed denim pieces, giant sunglasses–, the three artists’ figures are recreated through 3D techniques reminiscent of artists like Frederik Heyman. A perfect piece made by C41 under the direction of Leone Balduzzi to get lost in Fuera’s unique universe.
