“Happier Now is about the feelings that come after a heartbreak, you know, you are getting better, you are healthier, you won’t fall apart if you see your ex at a party,” replies Australian singer ELIZABETH when asked about the inspiration of the single and music video she is releasing today. A track whose narrated history, however, hides another side that is not so beautiful, more bitter. “But you also start to have the rose-coloured nostalgia for a relationship that was no good and wondering what could have been if you’d been able to make it work,” she concludes.
Having released her debut album The Wonderful World of Nature and cementing a personal sound that heralded similarities to Lana del Rey or Lorde, ELIZABETH returns with an announcement of her first new music in 3 years. And she does it showing that she is back to stay, stronger than ever, with a suite of three, interconnected singles and accompanying visuals that expand and complicate her richly alluring world. She’s now unveiling part one, Happier Now, co-written with The Temper Trap’s Toby Dundas and produced by Tones and I collaborator Konstantin Kersting.

The artist champions self-love and refuses to fall back into the abyss with a single marked by her defiance, her total refusal to backslide even as she’s pulled into an ex-partner’s web: “I am happier now,” she insists, “you’re not around.” Because romantic relationships are emotional whirlwinds that require a great capacity for emotional management, and their fundamental pillar must be self-care, putting our well-being before anything else.
