Put on a blender hip-hop, a dash of noise, a bunch of in-your-face attitude, a pinch of electronic music, and mix. Now you have Play at Your Own Risk, the new six-track record from EB Rebel. “We did not create with the intention of releasing the songs as an EP, but once I listened back to all of the tracks being made at that time, it felt right to put them together,” the NYC-based artist comments. “They all convey that sound which is in your face, high energy, heavy bass, aggressive music, hence the title,” they conclude.
Indeed, the Dallas-born artist has put out a record that screams rage with a spirit that blends post punk, experimental noise, and grunge. Baselines are extremely powerful and heavy, the vocals are fuelled by anger and an uncompromising spirit, and the overall delivery is cold and blunt but straightforward and clear.
You have more ‘melodic’ songs like Never, which has a more relaxed vibe to it, while Buenas Noches, the first single off of the EP, comes straight from darkness. In Numero Uno, the opener, EB Rebel showcases an unfazed attitude, knowing her worth: “Uno you know I’m the only one.” Speaking of the creative process, EB Rebel shares: “My producer partner and I wanted to make songs with the feeling that we created when I first began making music, the rebel sound.”
