Here's the new Dior collection, which was captained by its ambassadors Jisoo from the K-pop group Blackpink, singer and actress Suzy Bae and Olympic figure skater Yuna Kim, as it was shown at the South Korean capital for the first time – and they even created a new concept store to celebrate this. The emblematic Ewha Womans University was in charge of hosting this fashion event and, for Maria Grazia Chiuri, both Seoul and the University are the greatest symbols of contemporaneity today. And what's the result of this Fall/Winter 2022 collection? A dialogue between the Maison and the ever-changing constellation that is everyday life.
If we've lately been seeing how the Creative Director of the French house has been making a journey through the chronology of the brand – in Dior Cruise she went back to Mykonos and last year she travelled to the 1960s – now it seems that it's all about reimagining the 1990s. Clueless, Heathers, and 10 Things I Hate About You reappear in a collection that takes an interesting aesthetic turn for Chiuri. The sweet, classic preppy style gets a rebellious and effortless take. We can't tell if this is the result of the good girls gone bad aesthetic we've seen in other brands or if it's their way of breaking with the homogenous idea of the uniform and focusing on the element of unity which stems from it, which is what sisterhood is all about.
Grunge and punk-rock are present in the tartans and frayed blacks. Military boots are paired with ripped tights as well as the iconic Bar Jacket or the Juno silhouette. At the same time – and taking advantage of the skate park that decorates the catwalk – sports fashion also makes its way onto the catwalk in the form of cycling bodysuits and baseball jackets.
