There is a time to build structures and a time to step inside them. For years, Damilola Akinwunmi, better known as Dapper, has been shaping Nigeria’s music ecosystem from behind the scenes through Dapper Group, helping power the rise of artists like Seyi Vibez and Shallipopi. Now he draws on that same instinct from a different position. His latest single, My Typeplaces the ‘culturepreneur’ in artist mode, utilising the experience he has accumulated across the industry to guide a carefully assembled collaboration.
The afro-R&B track brings together TML Vibez, Singah, and Jujuboy, three voices from different corners of Nigeria’s evolving scene. Built around smooth melodies and late-night rhythms, My Type explores the pull of attraction while balancing Afrobeats movement with R&B intimacy. Produced by C-Tea, Deobeats, and Dapper himself, the song seamlessly transitions between Lagos street energy and softer melodic textures.
Each collaborator adds a different shade to the record. TML Vibez carries the urgency of Nigeria’s new street-pop generation; Singah contributes the polished afro-R&B tone heard on tracks like Teyamo and Balance It; and Jujuboy introduces a soulful layer shaped by juju, Afrobeats and church-rooted influences. Around the music sits a compact creative team: additional vocals from Smith and Deo, live bass guitar by Bazzman, and a visual framework guided by creative director Director K with art direction by 828.
The release follows recent singles Kura and Scenes, which together have already garnered millions of streams online and hinted at this new phase in Dapper’s creative trajectory. With My Type, that direction becomes clearer: a collaborative approach that brings together artists from different corners of Nigeria’s evolving scene while reflecting the same curatorial instinct that defines his work behind the industry’s structures.
