Since being exposed to a wide array of artistic and musical influences in the nineties, which led them to begin their musical explorations with GarageBand, brothers Max and Martin, aka Betical, have developed a distinctive sound. Over the years, their musical style has evolved into a sophisticated blend of house, tech house, and afro house, and they have learnt the importance of adhering to their own artistic convictions. Now they collaborate with RÜFÜS DU SOL on the second volume of Inhale / Exhale Remixed, which features twenty-two new reworks of their latest studio album, Inhale / Exhale.
Levitating – Betical Remix is the result of their creative alliance, being one of the collaborations on the second volume of Inhale / Exhale Remixed. Collaborators include Brazilian heavyweight Vintage Culture, Swiss sonic alchemist Jimi Jules, Berlin-based live act GHEIST, Dutch duo WEVAL, LP Giobbi, and Tim Engelhardt, among many others. With this release, Betical continues to consolidate its position in the global scene, showing its evolving artistic perspective.
When asked about their creative methodology, they describe it as adaptable, typically beginning with a robust concept, which is then refined into a complete composition. Collaboration is considered essential, driven by a shared artistic vision, as proved in their latest release with RÜFÜS DU SOL. “So the RÜFÜS guys had been super supportive of our ‘Back on 74’ rework. They really loved the vibe of it, and that meant a lot to us. After that, they got in touch and said they’d love us to remix one of their tracks in a similar spirit. They suggested Levitating, which made total sense because it had that same kind of energy and atmosphere we love working with,” Betical tells us about the starting point of this collaboration.
“The only thing was the deadline was really tight. We basically dove straight into the studio and spent the whole week on it, just trying to build something that felt true to the original but also brought our own flavour to it. Honestly, we’ve been fans of RÜFÜS for a long time, so getting the chance to remix one of their tracks is a huge honour. We just wanted to do it justice and create something that felt special, both for them and for us.” And after listening to the track, there’s no doubt they’ve achieved it.
