There’s a new record label in town, and it’s called Ala Børa. Founded by producer, DJ, and vocalist Bakayán (real name Burak Akkaya), the Berlin-based label presents itself to the world by releasing its first-ever song, a single titled Voices, by Bakayán himself. “Hear the voices in my head / Telling me it never ends / Hello darkness, hold my hand,” the producer and vocalist sings before a soft, melodic drop that keeps listeners on their toes.
Interpreted by Bakayán, and produced by him as well as Leonard Biwer (who also helped writing it), Voices is a hauntingly beautiful blend of intricate rhythms, arpeggiated synths, atmospheric textures, and angelic voices. It’s immersive, and quite intimate despite also having a dance floor-ready quality to it. As the introduction to Bakayán’s new project, it “offers a raw, deeply expressive introduction to the sonic and emotional universe he’s building,” the press release explains.
Based in Berlin, the DJ and producer has been on a roll this last year, with releases on other respected imprints including Axept, The Gardens of Babylon, Universal, and Get Physical. However, Bakayán wants to carve a new path of himself through Ala Børa, his new label. The name is Turkish for ‘capsising,’ and he describes it as “a movement born from transformation” that “originates from the momentum” of one of his most prolific years so far. More than a record label, it is a “space for expression without boundaries.”
