Akira Galaxy

The track Silver Shoes is about obsession, singing “there’s no one who can see you like I do.” Akira uses her ghostly, alto vocals to hypnotise, convince and dazzle listeners who can resonate with the feeling of romanticising past toxic lovers. Combined with twinkling synths and dreamy guitar loops, Akira ensures that the EP’s tracks spark a reaction. In the title track What’s Inside You, Akira cuts off a toxic partner, utilising percussive sounds to evoke the feeling of clarity and surety.

At the bright, young age of 23, Akira Galaxy shocks listeners with her wise and husky vocals, giving the impression that she has been in the industry for decades. An EP filled to the brim with haunting melodies and catchy riffs, the tracks are reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, Beach House, and the Cocteau Twins. Akira has also included a cover of Massive Attack’s Teardrop – perfectly suited to her rich and otherworldly vocals.

Akira’s accompanying visuals are nothing short of masterful either. With help from David Black (Daft Punk, Cat Power, Pharrell Williams), she creates physical worlds that embody the light and hallucinogenic sound of this EP.
