John Lennon’s Imagine is arguably the most known song dedicated to those who dream of a better place — “You may say that I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one” being one of the most sang-along lyrics in the history of contemporary music. But there is another one that’s quite popular and that you should get into: Any Dream Will Do, by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, from the 1970s musical Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Well, now, it’s LA-based artist Verskotzi who’s giving it a new spin in his new version.
As the singer comments, this track “always resonated with me as a child on a spiritual level, plus, my actual name is Joseph. The message of holding onto hopes and dreams when the world is in turmoil (or not quiet yet what we imagined it to be) rings so true in today’s day and age.” Indeed, in an increasingly polarised world and the alarming state of the natural environment, many of us are scared for the future. But we known the human race is hopeful by nature, and that the power of faith and imagination can help save us from doom. “I believe in the power of the Self and in a spiritual sense, the divine powerful nature of each individual’s soul to bring about serious change in the world ocne we’ve tapped into that inner power,” Verskotzi adds.
That dreamy spirit is reflected throughout the song, from the reverb in his voice to the feel-good feeling that it conveys. It shows softness and vulnerability yet strength and hope, which are powerful feelings that Verskotzi clings to. “Dreamers have always been world changers and we need people dreaming out loud and advocating for what they believe in, now more than ever,” he concludes.
