You’ve probably planned your summer holidays; and if you haven’t, you’re about to book some flights somewhere. And surely, there’ll be at least one wild night out, right? Well, here’s a tip: set the volume to highest and blast Trikk’s latest double EP through the speakers wherever it is that you’re going. With Harmonia, a six-track record, the DJ and producer is celebrating club music and night culture, proving why he’s been in the game for over a decade.
The double EP kicks off with Sagrado, a seven-minute song that grows slowly into becoming a club anthem. Slowly but surely, the producer adds more and more layers that give the track an euphoric feeling, perfect to get started. Bubbly, club-ready, and complex. We then move to Raiva, where Trikk brings Meute as collaborators, the eleven-piece techno marching band from Hamburg, Germany. Naturally, this song is more instrumental, which gives it an epic feeling. By half of the song, it suddenly drops to a silence, only to recover after that with even bigger energy.
In Fortuna, Trikk explores more global sounds — through drums and percussion, but also thanks to Kenyan vocalist Sofiya Nzau, who adds a refined touch to the track. It makes the audience feel like they’re travelling just by listening to it. Luxo is probably the darkest one in the double EP, the one that should be closing the club while the sun is rising outside. Weaving industrial grit and organic warmth, it still feels like a summer breeze, only that in a much darker surrounding.
Last but not least, Rigor is the last song on the double EP but the first single, the one that started it all. While it starts with a dark aura as well (very Berlin), the song intercalates more luminous piano arrangements, giving it an almost heavenly touch. Ok, this isn’t the last song though: the double EP closes with the instrumental version of Fortuna, especially thought for other DJs to use and remix in their own way.
With Harmonia, Trikk is giving us a perfect record for the summer, be it for the pre-party before heading to the club, or organising a home party with some friends. It proves the Portuguese DJ and producer’s ability to create atmospheres, to travel with your imagination, and to feel the music in your bones.
And if you’re in Lisbon this weekend, there’s no better way to experience Harmonia than live: Trikk will be performing at the Innervisions event—an unmissable night for fans of deep, emotive club music. [Tickets here]
