There was a sense of continuity in Takuya Morikawa’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection for his brand Taakk. Last season, the designer presented a collection titled God is in the Details, which featured rich textures and prints, and intricate patterns. Now, the Japanese designer is back with a rather similar collection titled almost the same, just a little bit longer: God is in the Details amidst the cycle of growth and creation. Photographer Iulia Matei and creative studio Crush Services got us into the backstage to spot the differences.
Established in 2017, Tokyo-based Taakk is the brand founded by award-winning fashion designer Takuya Morikawa, who spent eight years working for Issey Miyake. Maybe it was his experience there that heavily influence his passion for imbuing his designs with natural qualities like fluidity and custom-developed fabrics that perform according to his imagination. True to his philosophy, the new Taakk collection had a heavy influence from the flora and fauna worlds, featuring richly textured bomber jackets resembling roses or finessed tulle shaped as birds. Distressed denim in jeans and outerwear, psychedellic prints, transparencies, and beautiful color degradés completed the new proposal by Morikawa.
