Sevi, a14-year-old pop musician from Los Angeles, has released her first solo single titled Back Up Friend. The singer’s first ‘professional’ song, out today, is a hypnotic pop track filled with emotional teenage struggles, which she also produced herself. Impressive, isn’t it?
What is so shocking about the dream-pop musician Sevilla Merritt (Sevi), is that she is only fourteen years old! She has been performing and singing since the age of five, but only began making music over the past few years. It’s also important to note that Sevi not only sang on the track, but also produced it. If she is making such solid pop music now, there must be lots in store for the future.
Her first song is a break-up song, filled with teenage yearning and angst. “Why am I the backup friend” is a sweet line which one cannot help but smile at. It is beautiful to hear a song brimming with innocence but filled with the pain we have all felt being the age of fourteen, struggling with friendships and wondering where it went wrong. The track has a distinctive sound of dreamy vocals and a slow backing instrumental.
It’s great to see Sevi being given the platform to release her single, and we are patiently waiting for more material. The LA-based musician has more tracks in the works, and we will be looking out for them when they arrive soon. In the meantime, you can stream Backup Friend now on all platforms.
