The French house Mugler has announced the appointment of the Portuguese Miguel Castro Freitas as its new Creative Director, effective April 1st. This appointment follows Casey Cadwallader's departure after nearly eight years with the brand.
Freitas, a Central Saint Martins graduate with extensive experience at prestigious fashion houses including Sportmax, Dries Van Noten, Christian Dior Couture, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Lanvin, will debut his first Mugler collection at Paris Fashion Week in September. “It is an honour to join the spectacular house of Mugler. As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion. Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage,” says the new creative director.
Mugler, known for its distinctive curvilinear designs and figure-enhancing mesh, selected Freitas for his "deep understanding of Mugler's DNA" and "vast creativity and talent," according to Global President Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum. Cadwallader had led the brand since 2022, following the passing of founder Thierry Mugler, keeping its legacy alive while successfully adapting it to the new generations.
