After having released a dance record with DJ Edu under the Choplife Soundsystem moniker –we told you about it a few weeks ago in this article –, Mr Eazi is back to present his new solo single, Chop Time, No Friend, which sees him returning to the Banku Music sound that he pioneered on Afropop essentials like Skin Tight and Pour Me Water. This is the lead single from his upcoming solo debut album, set to release at the end of October this year.
The Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning global superstar doesn’t cease to surprise his fans with new releases. His musical project is consolidated, even more, on the international scene, achieving sold-outs at concerts wherever he goes and garnering millions of streams across all platforms (in fact, he’s the most streamed African artist in the world, with over four billion streams across all platforms).
“The phrase ‘Chop Time, No Friend’ is a very common Ghanaian saying, something you will see written on the front or side of buses, just like the popular saying, ‘God is Great. It means when you are eating, you don't think about anybody, you are just focused on your enjoyment,” says the artist about his latest release, which is a declaration and a celebration of self.
“I am saying everything I touch turns to gold, and you can't trouble me,” adds the musical innovator, business leader and philanthropist, who is also revealing a music video shot in Dakar along with the single and on which he has collaborated with award-winning filmmaker Allison Swank Owen to bring the track further to life. The video sees Mr Eazi shining the spotlight on the thriving creative scene that is emerging out of Senegal's capital city – from fashion to fine art to its everyday people. The countdown for his debut solo album release has already started!
