Are you looking for love? Your perfect significant other? Someone who complements you, understands you, and cares for you? You’re in the right place. Even though we aren’t a match-making service, our main character is. In Materialists, the new film by Celine Song (who stole our hearts with her 2023 hit movie Past Lives), Dakota Johnson is responsible for putting people together and making love happen. Isn’t that nice?
But as usual, what you do in your professional life doesn’t always influence your personal one. It’s the same with advice — easy to give, hard to follow. Again, we’ll be seeing a love triangle and complex interpersonal relationships, this time co-starring two heartthrobs: Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. However, the tone, as we see in the trailer, is much, much different. Forget feeling regretful, asking ‘what if,’ or being indecisive; Materialists feels like a 2000s cheesy rom com. But since it’s by Celine Song, will this hold true? We’ll have to wait until it’s theatrical release, slated for June this year.
