Cutler and Gross and Martyn Bal invite London based artist Luke Waller to celebrate the success of their collaborative eyewear collection titled Wowzers. Each of impressive portraits featuring the glasses evokes a different story behind an enigmatic individual, like an omnibus film.
In past few years, Cutler and Gross, the Knightsbridge based eyewear label founded by Graham Cutler and Tony Gross in 1969, has proactively worked together with a number of renowned designers, including Maison Martin Margiela, Comme des Garcons and Giles Deacon to name a few. And this season sees an exciting new collaboration with Dutch menswear designer, Martyn Bal.
The RCA graduate has worked for Hedi Slimane at Dior, Versace and Burberry Prorsum before setting up his signature label in 2009. His magnificent pieces reflect inner strength of men such as versatility, and he challenges fashion conventions with an architectural vision, around shapes, fit and proportion. Applying this design aesthetics to the collaboration, a collection of eyewear titled Wowzers was designed to capture people's imaginations whist redefining signature elements from Cutler and Gross's folklore.
Besides, Cutler and Gross and Martyn has just presented an another collaboration with London based artist Luke Waller to celebrate the continuous success of their collection. The result is a series of nine paintings, and each portrait depicts an individual wearing the Wowzers and tells its own cinematic story of an enigmatic individual holding up a mirror to inner strength. Blurring the boundaries between fashion and art, the collaboration celebrates people's individuality.
