As one of the streetwear giants, before his passing Virgil Abloh had been heavily involved in the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Nike to release a pair of Air Force 1s, one of the American brand's all-time best sellers. He even took care of the eventual Sotheby's auction, which will take place from January 26 and February 8. Two hundred pairs of shoes will be auctioned off at a starting bid of two-thousand dollars.
They were created as part of Louis Vuitton Men's Spring/Summer 2022 collection and the sneakers are entirely made of precious calf leather, embellished with the French House's emblematic Monogram and Damier patterns. The shoes come with a Louis Vuitton pilot case, also from the same collection, which has been reinterpreted in an orange colourway from the archive, and they read “Air,” a classic from Abloh.
The money raised will go to The Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund created in July 2020, launched from a million-dollar donation from Abloh and other partners like Nike. Its mission is to foster equity and inclusion in the fashion industry by providing scholarships to promising young students of Black, African American or African descent. Just one more inspiring project to add to Virgil Abloh's legacy.
