Sometimes growing up isn’t like all those series we see on TV. Sometimes it's more like a horror film. And that’s what Less Killjoy talks about on her new EP Pink Grenade, available on Spotify. Growing up also can mean losing friends, heartbreaks, coping with depression or loneliness. “I don’t want to hide my true feelings about life and the world I live in. I want to be me on and off stage. Authenticity shouldn’t be a selling point in an artist bio… it should be a prerequisite for making music,” explains the singer.
With Nirvana, Linkin Park or Rihanna as inspiration throughout her life, Less Killjoy presents Pink Grenade with a rhythm full of electric sounds, acoustic guitars and echoing vocal energy. The lyrics proclaim what it’s like to grow up in the suburbs, to have to live with the constant feeling that you are nobody, that loneliness that crushes your chest until it suffocates you “I’m my own worst enemy,” the lyrics says.
“I can’t begin to count the number of times music has been my escape and my way of communicating. I truly don’t know any other way and if I can connect with even one person in a positive way I think I’ve won,” she explains to us. Less Killjoy wants to build a community where people can feel integrated regardless of gender, sexual orientation or age… That’s why her lyrics are about her deepest thoughts and experiences. Pink Grenade is full of honest messages that can connect with anyone.
