Ahoy, sailor! Wanna take a dip in the cool waters of Les Benjamins? As temperatures rise and the sun shines brighter, the Istanbul-based brand presents its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, titled Kismet Voyage East to West, an ode to explorer Sadun Boro, the first amateur sailor from Turkey to circumnavigate the globe via sailing vessel.
We’re used to Les Benjamins taking us on incredible journeys, from horse racing to a post-apocalyptic desert. This time around, the brand founded by Bünyamin Aydin is drawing inspiration from sailing – from the exciting, competitive start of the race to the glamorous award ceremony that concludes it.
This season’s collection is titled after Saun Boro’s boat, the Kismet-Fortune, and it dives deep into the theme of sailing through nautical-inspired details and tailoring. We see that in pieces with ropes or hand-made macrame details including shirts, tops and blazers, as well as embroideries symbolising the rich marine flora and fauna. Deep blue and green hues across the collection (skirts, jackets, suits and more) also remind us of the undersea colours. The sail-inspired pieces also include lightweight nylon fabrics, degraded leathers, recycled materials and denim. But as we were saying, the glamour of the awards ceremony plays an important role too. That gilded glamour translates into luxurious fabrics like silk as well as structured shapes and sleek tailoring.
