The concept of 'family' is being addressed in a series of both private photo albums and artistic pictures captured by over twenty photographers in the exhibition titled Family Affairs, at the Deichtorhallen Internationale Kunst und Fotografie in Hamburg (Germany) until July 4.
In the exhibition compiled by curator Ingo Taubhorn we can find the work of photographers like Vincent Ferrané, with his series Milky Way, Eric Gyamfi, Lucía Herrero, Akihito Yoshida and Hassan Fazili. The intention is to show the diversity of approaches in photography as well as that of the family models and the different dynamics between them. It breaks through the everyday monotony to explore intimate moments, like a parent growing old or the support or lack thereof in a family.
With a selection of well-known photographers from all over the world, another objective is to show the subjectivity of experiences and at the same time the universality of those, of what we can find in common with people from across borders. In this way, Family Affairs can be understood as a transcontinental photographic discourse.
