If you’ve ever had a broken heart, this one’s for you. Laying his soul bare, Etham is releasing a new single about the difficulty of accepting breakup and, even harder, to try to live with someone who’s rocked your world and become an intrinsic part of it. In Still Can’t Move On, the British singer-songwriter shows off his impressive skills – both vocally and lyrically – and awakens the listeners’ senses.
Etham starts the song quite tragically: “Waking up, catching my breath before it settles in / The feeling of losing my head replaying everything you said / That it’s all just too much to handle / You needed space, need some time.” As sad as it sounds, grieving for a partner who no longer is there conjures all of our sadness, making us feel despaired and aching. The singer’s falsetto in the chorus, and the power in his voice, are a testament that he’s singing from the heart and going through bittersweet memories. Speaking of this, Etham says: “It’s definitely one of my favourite vocals. I love what Scott did with the track – I think it’s still simple, in a beautiful way, but it’s also got that cinematic quality to it.”
Co-written with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Scott Effman, Still Can’t Move On is the third single off of Etham’s upcoming EP, set for release on May 16th. The record will explore the arc of a relationship, from the thrilling first days where the future looks ahead looks as bright as a star to the days after a breakup, when everything around you seems gloomy and you’re defeated. Before that, Etham has released a couple of more songs: Now That You’re Gone, where the piano complements the singer’s heartbreaking story, and There For You, where he sings in a half-whisper.
