Newport talent Douvelle19 rounds the year off right with bouncy new track Shook, giving us a taste of what his newest EP When I Dream might have in store when it drops early next year.
A perfect marriage between wubs and drums, Shook is made for shaking. Whilst holding onto some of the syrupy sounds the Welsh producer is known for, Douvelle19 shows us a newer production style that flirts with brassier, darker sounds. In this track, emblematic grime rhythms fuse with UKG and RnB to lay the foundations for collaborator Manga Saint Hilare to run wild on the lyrics. Don’t be fooled by Shook’s softer introduction, akin to some of Douvelle’s older productions, because Manga’s pitched-up vocals quickly flip this track into a grimey, drummy banger. To be be released on the 9th of November, Shook leaves us wondering what Douvelle has cooked up in his upcoming EP, When I Dream, loaded with six tracks ready to ring in the new year. But in the meantime, use this club-ready tune to warm up your winter.
As seen on his most recent release Green Light, Douvelle19 is an expert in sugary UKG, fusing elements of downtempo, deep house, and jazzy-inspired notes into his music. With a blossoming love for using legendary grime samples in his tracks, Douvelle’s sound seems to be constantly evolving, borrowing musical bits and pieces here and there to create his own fresh, balmy sound. With Green Light and Shook now both released from the EP, When I Dream is guaranteed to have a few musical twists and turns in store for us.
