Remember when just a few days ago, we told you about Charli xcx starring in a new A24 movie directed by Aidan Zamiri and titled The Moment? Well, that’s still under wraps. But in the meantime, you’ll be able to access the creative process behind her 2020 album, how i’m feeling now – with hit songs like claws or party 4 u – in a new documentary: Charli xcx: Alone Together, released on Mubi. The official trailer just dropped, watch it here!
To many people, the British artist has become a household name just this past year with the massive success of brat, her latest album. But for us Tumblr girlies, Charli has been an icon for over a decade. She was first catapulted to fame with I Love It (2012), a song by duo Icona Pop that she was featured in. But she kept working tirelessly and released other solo hits like SuperLove (2013), Boom Clap (2014) or Break the Rules (2014). She exuded coolness (still does), and her music helped define the last decade of music. Now, over ten years later, she’s had the most successful year of her career — a success that she’s built brick by brick, step by step, song after song.
In 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and the world had to quarantine, she approached her fans and used the internet as a live studio to show us what goes behind crafting an album — from songwriting to production, to editing, decision-making, and more. A kid who grew up on the Internet, Charli has always been aware of the infinite possibilities that the digital space offers, both in terms of creativity and human connection. In this new Mubi documentary, we get exclusive access to recording sessions and livestream confessions by the artist while making how i’m feeling now, one of her greatest works to date.
Charli xcx: Alone Together is already streaming in Mubi USA, soon to reach other countries worldwide.
