In fashion, we’re used to seeing highly editorialised, produced images: they’ve been carefully thought out, planned and sketched beforehand, and after the photos are taken, they’re retouched and edited. As fast as our industry moves, it takes time, effort, and a brilliant team to work on the images that many just see for a few seconds on social media, billboards, or ads. So Balenciaga, going against the tide and finding an alternative way to showcase their work, is presenting its Fall 25 collection through a series of internal-use images captured by Demna on his phone.
As the press release explains, “These photos, typically used to finalise styling, show the looks in their purest form — without the usual hair & makeup, or scenography. The collection debuts as a watermarked image leaked on Demna’s personal social media. It is a study of a complete wardrobe, with a focus on comfort.” True to his DNA, which he’s been working on for the past years and that has become instantly recognisable, we discover a collection that mixes loose and oversized fits (blazers, wide-leg trousers, bomber jackets, knit jumpers, and also XL bags) with structured garments, distressed denim, multi-layered looks, high-end leather, multipurpose handbags, and futuristic-looking accessories like sunglasses and shoes.
