After publishing her sophomore album, Shabrang, at the end of August, Iranian phenomenon Sevdaliza releases today the music video for Rhode, one of the album’s most celebrated songs. Directed by Anna Himma, we first enter into a Hajime Sorayama-inspired female robot spaceship (which has propellers as butt cheeks) and end up seeing the artist riding a giant knife à la mechanical bull. On a recent post on Instagram, the Iranian-born, Netherlands-based artist concludes that “this one is for you, LADIES,” after telling women worldwide that despite “I don’t like to give advice because I am barely at the start of a revolution,” they should ground themselves “by building a strong devoted inner life and a life outside of your work” and be prepared “for that tough road.” As she finishes, “We deserve to be what we are. Take the time to nourish and rest up.”
