If Miley Cyrus' Flowers or Shakira's latest Bizarrap session are songs about dissing your ex, Kali Uchis' take on I Wish You Roses is quite the opposite, as the title suggests. Masterfully directed by Cho Gi-Seok (it was directed in South Korea, by the way), the song and video bring a feeling of much-needed peace, especially, astrologically speaking, after mars and mercury have finally gone direct, brought to us through harmonious and flawless visuals by the flower-expert himself.
In Uchis' own words, the song could be directed at anyone, really, “It could be a friend, a lover, or someone else, but the point is to celebrate releasing people from your life without being resentful or bitter.” Just like the lyrics say, “With pretty flowers can come the bee sting/But I wish you love, I wish you well/I wish you roses while you can still smell ’em.” Bee stings might hurt, but it's better to focus on embracing the love you constantly receive before it's too late when you can no longer enjoy it...
