When the British singer Jorja Smith listened to the songs of the forthcoming album Spell 31 by Ibeyi, she couldn’t resist but jump on this project. And that’s how Lavender and Red Roses was created. “We knew we wanted to create something with Jorja that would be different from what we’ve done previously that would allow us to connect with the true meaning of the song. When we came across the three sisters of fate from the Greek mythology that personify fate, we knew immediately that it would be the right idea. Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos are sisters, one of them creates the thread of fate, the other analyses it and the third one cuts it,” mentions the duo.
Lavender and Red Roses represents the urge that we may feel to help a loved one that is going through a hard time, but as much as we want to assist them, the truth is that only they can save themselves. Otherwise, we will eventually find ourselves dragged by their darkness. That is why it is so important to protect our energy. After the album comes out Ibeyi is planning to reward their fans with some live concerts during May. So, talking about energies, isn’t this a good way to heal through the lyrics and their heavenly voices?
