In Secret Plan, Drug Store Romeos invite us into their hazy, fuchsia-filled dream world. Reminiscent of the late eighties and nineties shoegaze DIY aesthetic, musically and visually, the song takes us on a glittery melodic ride. There are psychedelic inspirations as well incorporated into the filtered visuals, offering a breezy and ephemeral feeling overall. With light breathy vocals and reverberations between upbeat and more slowed down tempos, this is the type of song that makes you want to sway along in your bedroom or spin around in a field.
The band explains that the song “was written during the first lockdown when the only time I could write was between 2 am to 7 am because I live with twelve very noisy people. I wanted to make a purple song so I turned off all lights apart from my colour changing bulb which I made a magenta purple,” and we agree, it turned out to be pretty purple.
